Varsity - Becca Moore (3) - Becca has had a great season and has been there for us many times. Against Iroquois we needed a spark (and we could have used some heat) to get the team rolling and Becca was there again. She had a big night with 10 kills and 9 digs but more important she would not let the team down and helped get us back in gear and win a big road match that meant 1st place in Region 6. Kudos Bex.
Junior Varsity -Sam Long (2) - She was passing great all night, but Sam's biggest asset is: Sam is a GREAT TEAM player. She plays with the same controlled enthusiasm no matter if she is on the court or on the bench. All you girls finished a perfect season ,16-0, and each and every one should be very proud. Last match it was a TEAM ball that was awarded to all of you. This game it is Sam's game ball, not only for her play against Iroquois but for being the TEAM player she has been all season. < Sam, I could not agree more. Thanks for a great season, for always giving 100% and for being a great teammate and asset to GM. Coach M >
Girard
Varsity - Seniors - It has been a great ride so far. Thanks for always working hard and giving your best. That said, we still have work to do as our job is not close to being done nor over. Keep pushing. I am honored to be your coach.
Junior Varsity -TEAM -What I see is a TEAM. A TEAM that is as good as any varsity team in our region. We have outstanding players on this team, players that would be starters on every other varsity team around. We have players that come off the bench and play fantastic ball. Fifteen wins, two tournament championships... one game to go. This TEAM has one more mission to complete, one more opportunity to compete as a part of this awesome TEAM.
Fairview
Varsity - Becca Moore (2) and Courtney Lydick (3) - On a night the whole team looked very impressive, Becca and Court both really turned it up a notch in the match at the net and were almost unstoppable with 26 kills between them. It not only was the number of kills but hitting the whole court with great line shots as well as cross court. The team put on a great show for the crowd and these 2 stars really shined that night.
Junior Varsity - Cassie Thayer (2) - After a rough night Tuesday Cassie bounced back against Fairview. The team was passing sloppy and Cassie came in and passed well and hit well picking us up and helping the team to its fourteenth win. Great way to get your game back on track.
Seneca
Varsity - none - not a whole lot of surprises or opportunities to make big impacts. If there was one thing that stood out, it was Courtney serving them off the court in game 2.
Junior Varsity - none - As we talked after the game, it was a sloppy game- good to get the win but we need to play better. The passing was off, especially at the beginning. When we began to pass better both Katie and Lauren were hitting well and the setters were getting them the ball. Three more matches and our season is done- lets really enjoy ourselves and play crisp aggressive volleyball.
Corry
Varsity - Mady Etzel (2) - On a night we had a hard time getting out of the gate, Mady showed up from the very first play and turned in a great night with 9 kills and 7 blocks and was back to playing the way we know she can. (& she made the paper, how can you not love that). Way to go Mad Dog.
Junior Varsity - none - not from a lack of effort but everyone went out and did their job and did it well. You all should be very proud of yourselves and your teammates. Being part of a team is a great deal of fun, and this is a team. It is easier when the team is winning, which we certainly are. Lets continue to play hard, play with class, and enjoy the end of our season one point at a time.
Fort LeBeouf
Varsity - Courtney Lydick (2), Rachael Ruscitto, and Aspen Weber - I dont like giving out more than 1 game ball but 1) how do you not give a game ball to Court who dominated the net with 29 kills and only 3 hitting errors against the 1st place team. 2) how do you not give a game ball to Rach when she has a great game serving and turns in 51 Asst's but spreading the ball around, making great defensive plays and great decisions. 3) How do you not give Apsen a game ball with a "hope killer" roof block on #27, 6 kills filling in for Mady and Becca and ripping the last 7 pts in game 5 of our biggest game of the year. If that is not clutch I dont know what is. (I know Fritz, I dont know much) Very impressive ladies and you made your teammates and coaches proud.
Junior Varsity - Aspen Weber (2) - Girls you all played well and should be proud of beating a good FLB team in two. Aspen made the most of the sets she got: 7 kills and really answered the call at the service line: 3 aces. Well done Aspen, your bar has now been raised, especially when we watched your performance in the varsity match! Very Well done Aspen.
Northwestern
Varsity - Steph Flinchbaugh - 2 Kills, 7 Digs, 3 Asst's and 1 block were the stats but the real difference was the involvement in defense, covering, secondary setting and some great rally keeping plays at the net that were bound for side outs. Simply a great all around game from the very first play till the last. A game we know she could turn in but were waiting to see. Now we want to see it every week. You can teach an "old dog new tricks" and it is starting to show. Great job Steph but there is more in you, that is not the peak. (Steph, did coach just call you an old dog? Seriously though your game has really improved. Keep it going)
Junior Varsity - Katie Petruski - 7 kills, 1 block for a kill in two games. No hitting errors. This game ball is the beginning of what we know Katie is capable of. There is so much more POWER volleyball in her and this night is only be a small glimpse of what is yet to come. Beyond the hitting and blocking Katie also stepped up her passing game. The drill we worked on Monday with free-balls really showed as Katie took a handful of free-balls and passed very well. Well done Katie. We all are looking forward to next week!
Iroquois
Varsity - Becca Moore - 2 Aces, 4 Kills, 7 Digs great passing and defense are a typical nights work, but the game ball goes to raising the bar when the team was down and needed it the most. Her defense and 2 crushing cross court spikes were hope killers and set the tone for the rest of the night. It could have been a different night had Becca not "taken over" and cranked it up when we needed.
Junior Varsity - Sam Long, Cassie Thayer, Lindsey Hepinger -“….... …..” that is me being speechless. Especially the girls that came off the bench-you had me speechless. We talked about taking advantage of playing opportunities and to borrow a phrase from Kris Osinski; ‘Did you see Sam, Cassie, and Lindsey play last night!” On a night were many girls played very well Sam, Cassie, and Lindsey really stepped up their game. I tried to sort out one of them as the recipient of this game ball but I could not. Lindsey was passing very well, she was focused and was always in position. Both Sam and Cassie were covering twenty feet and making great passes when they got to the ball. That was fun!
Girard
Varsity - none - everyone played well and contributed but no one was really presented with a chance to have an exceptional game. We had 16 aces and many balls unreturned and many unforced errors by Girard. Nothing against the way anyone played, simply nothing above expectations.
Junior Varsity - Jena Skelton - We have talked about taking advantage of opportunity when you have one and Jena did just that. In a tight match she came off the bench and performed very well in a position she has not even practiced at. Besides bouncing a ball off a girls back, (how does that happen?-new meaning to the phrase 'Don't duck'), she put the ball away when we needed someone to do just that. Well done!
Fairview
Varsity - Courtney Lydick - Court played the game we all knew she had in her. She dominated the net play with 15 kills and 5 blocks and also contributed with 4 Aces and believe it or not 2 digs. She hit with confidence and authority. She has a high bar to raise but she raised it on this night. The scary thing is she is still learning to hit outside. When she gets there look out! Keep pushing yourself and your teammates.
Junior Varsity - Val Majewski - After being injured since pre-season it took Val one week to make an impact in a close match. She had 7 kills and solid serving, 2 aces, throughout the match. Her passing began sub par but as "crunch time" came she really improved her defense as well as continuing her aggressive play at the net.
Seneca
Varsity - Hil Woods - It is not easy coming off the bench after sitting for 2 games, but Hil made it look like riding a bike. She gets the game ball for coming off the bench and racking up 9 asst's and 3 digs in 3 rotations during the 3rd game. Hil set an example of making the most out of any opportunity that presents itself no matter how small. I and others now wonder what her stats would have been had she played all 3 games. Granted she tried to set herself 1 ball... maybe so she could also get a kill? I told her, I know you are fast but the other girls have to play also, so Hil now knows she must set them :o)
Junior Varsity - Aspen Weber was a model of consistency all night. Only one hitting error in seven kills, with an additional five kills in the varsity match. Mix that with a few aces surrounded by strong serving and most would say that deserves a game ball but there is more; Aspen really stepped up her defensive game. She was playing her position well and completely focused on defense.
Corry
Varsity - Lauren Astorino on a night where everyone from starters down the whole bench contributed to give a great team effort, Lauren played what coach and I believe was her best match of the year with 10 digs, 2 kills, 1 Ace, a good night of serving and a confident and crisp defensive effort.
Junior Varsity - Molly Streiff was solid at the service line and picked her setting game up giving the hitters good hittable balls in a deceptive fashion. Many players had a good night, some worked hard to improve after a slow start, but Molly had her best night so far hustling and making good decisions.
Fort Leboeuf
Varsity - The 7th player (Bench & JV) - When 2 heavyweights go at it only one can win and they were able to do a few more things than we could but the bench never gave up hope or cheering and were pushing for those on the court all night.
Junior Varsity - You beat a solid FLB team with an average performance. Our emotion was good and we avoided unforced errors as was our plan. What we need to improve is serve receive and the entire team staying focused on defense ALWAYS!
Northwestern
Varsity - A few players had a better night than others and though there were some very good plays, all and all no-one player played particularly outstanding nor out-shined the rest of the TEAM.
Junior Varsity - A solid performance by the TEAM. No one individual really picked up their game to another level though many of you are making advances.
Franklin
Varsity - Mady Etzel 11 Kills, 0 hitting errors and 5 Blocks. Well above average night and came through big when the team needed it.
Junior Varsity - Kayla "Psycho" Fox - All-around effort with exceptional serving and hustle all night and until the very end!
McDowell
Varsity - Kristen Fritz for a great all around game and setting an example of senior leadership on the court! (and for finally listening to me :o)
Junior Varsity - Everyone played well with solid performances from many. Coach and I agree that not all games deserve game balls. Good team effort girls but a game ball will be reserved for outstanding all around effort and extending your level of play.
Iroquois
